BLESSED JOHN PAUL II

Pope John Paul II

          Karol Jozef Wojtyła popularly known as Pope John Paul II was born on May 18, 1920. Pope John Paul II was the third-longest in the history of the Papacy in the Roman Catholic Church. He reigned as pope for almost 27 years. JPII,as most people call him was the first non-Italian to serve in office since the Dutch-German Pope Adrian VI died in 1523 and was the only Polish Pope to date.


          He was well loved by many people as he love them especially the young ones, and he also has been acclaimed as one of the most influential leader in the 20th century. Pope John Paul II has a special part in the heart of the Filipino people.  The Pope have seen it when he visited the Philippines twice, the first was in 1981 where he beatified the first Filipino saint, Lorenzo Ruiz and the second was in 1995 for the celebration of the World Youth Day.

          He died on April 2, 2005 due to septic shock and heart failure as listed in his death certificate. On May 1, 2011, John Paul II was  beatified by his successor Pope Benedict XVI  in a ceremony at St. Peter's Plaza.
