The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) started to implement it's smoking ban in public places within Metro Manila after a month of dry run. Some of environmental protection officers of the MMDA are carrying big signs of "no smoking" while roaming around Metro Manila.
Violators will be charged with a fine of 500 to 1000 pesos or 8 hours community service for the first offense, 1,000 to 5,000 pesos or 16 hours community service for the second offense, and 10,000 pesos or 32 hours of community service for the third offense.
The smoking ban will be effective starting today July 1, 2011, from 6 am to 8 pm, meaning, anyone who smoke in public places outside of these hours are exempted in violating the smoking ban.
